Jim holds a Major in Business and Minor in Journalism from the University of Minnesota. Jim wrote a best-selling business book that showed small business owners how they could apply the marketing techniques of national and international marketers. Utilizing the book as a text, Jim taught advertising, public relations and sales promotion to small business owners at seminars and classes at the University of Hawaii and Bates Technical College in Tacoma.
Twenty years ago, Vanderwarker decided to change careers and became a licensed real estate salesperson in Washington State. Thirteen years ago, he obtained his broker’s license and became a Branch Manager of the South Puget Sound office of Real Estate 2000, a 100% home-office brokerage, co-owned by him and business partner, Bob Sturgill. About the same time, Jim became a Certified Real Estate Instructor with Washington State. In February 2001, Jim and his business partner opened a new brokerage, Real Estate USA. Using a unique 100%-home office business model, an emphasis on education and an “Agent First” philosophy, Jim and Bob grew the business to an eight-office brokerage with nearly 600 agents at its highest point. The 2007 downturn in the economy and the real estate market had a negative impact on the productivity and profitability of the agents, the branch offices and the brokerage. Vanderwarker and Sturgill had to make some tough decisions to keep the brokerage viable. When Connect Realty became visible in the Seattle-Tacoma market, Jim and Bob could see that the 3-tier residual income model of Connect could provide them with the unique selling proposition they needed to re-build their business. Jim and Bob made the switch to Connect Realty in April 2008.
As the designated Broker, Vanderwarker will concentrate his efforts on compliance, administration and productivity. Bob Sturgill will concentrate on marketing, recruiting and team-building.

Bob Sturgill is no stranger to hard work or taking on new challenges. His experience in the world of the virtual real estate brokerage business began over ten years ago. He and his business partner were owners of a virtual real estate brokerage of about 600 agents.
When the opportunity came along to join Connect Realty, with it's virtual concept, technology platform and best in the industry compensation program, it was a no brainier for the partners to align themselves with Connect Realty. Today they are busy building the Connect Realty brand throughout the Northwest.
Bob is a US Army Veteran and retired as a Sergeant Major. His leadership skills, training ability and attention to detail make him a natural for the real estate brokerage business. As part of the Connect Realty NW Team, Bob's focus is on working with the team builders to add quality agents to Connect Realty and to provide meaningful training

I bought my first home when I was 21 years old and now own six homes of which five are rental properties.
